Description:
The Veterans Benefits Coordinator assists in operation of the Military and Veterans Initiative at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi. The Veterans Education Specialist/School Certifying Official reports to the Assistant Director of Military and Veteran Services.
Position Responsibilities:
50% - Certifies veteran and military-connected federal educational benefits by reporting enrollment and graduation information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the University's compliance with state and federal regulations.
30% - Oversees and evaluates the requirements for receipt of VA and Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Military benefits by analyzing and monitoringenrollment,the student financial account, financial aid, and academic records of each veteran or eligible person.
10% - Serves as secondary manager for the University's implementation of the Hazlewood Exemption Act. Determine student eligibility for the Hazlewood benefits. Monitor cumulative credit hours for students per term, ensure benefits are correctly applied and accounted for. Oversee Compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and TVC rules and reporting on Hazlewood.
5% - Monitors VAWork-Studyprogram.
5% - Perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Military and Veteran Services or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree.
Two (2) years of related experience.
Knowledge of higher education or business operation practices.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook).
Excellent communication skills to be able to communicate with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and professional manner to effectively present information on a one-on-one basis, small groups, and/or other employees of the organization.
Ability to travel to local, state, and national workshops and conferences as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
VAONCE experience.
Experience in student veteran’s services, working with veterans, and veterans’ programs.
Experience with Banner.
Experience processing Hazelwood Veteran Benefits.
