Selection Criteria SC1 Understanding of common approaches, policies, programs and research relating to student wellbeing.SC2 Demonstrated ability in the delivery of student and family wellbeing services in a relevant setting and, preferably experience working with schools in the area of student wellbeing.SC3 Demonstrated ability to provide information, advice and support to teachers and families responsible for the management of students experiencing behavioural problems that are impacting on their learning outcomes.SC4 Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, as part of a team and network with the wide range of people within the education and wider community.SC5 Demonstrated capacity to lead a wellbeing team and manage time effectively. Role Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. Responsibilities Student wellbeing relates to all the curricular activities that the John Fawkner College undertakes to provide for the wellbeing of its students. It is aimed at ensuring that the College creates and maintains a caring and supportive environment in which the experience of teaching and learning is enhanced for all students. The student wellbeing leader will ultimately be responsible for the team who provides firsthand support for students.The Student Wellbeing Leader will be responsible for the following:Providing counselling and guidance to students, who may be self-referred, Wellbeing Leader referred, or parent referred. Cases requiring professional counselling or treatment should be referred to an appropriate agency with prior agreement of the student and parent.Providing referrals to external agencies and services as necessary and with the student and parent's knowledge and consent.Assisting the development, coordination operation and maintenance of the total student support structures, within the context of the Strategic Plan, and in collaboration with the Assistant Principal.Arranging meetings of relevant teachers and liaising with external providers to plan and implement strategies to resolve identified problems.Providing appropriate staff with information relevant and necessary to ensure the wellbeing and education of students experiencing difficulties.Working with staff to develop positive College programs to foster the wellbeing of all students.Assisting in the implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviours.Organising meetings and liaising with and supporting those members of the College community responsible for meeting the educational requirements of students with economic difficulties.Providing support and assistance when relevant, in conjunction with other relevant staff, to new students to the College, students preparing to leave the College, and students experiencing difficulties at the College, at home or in the community.Acting as an advocate for students and/or as a resource for parents.Liaising with parents and keeping parents informed of their child's wellbeing issues.Working closely with the Year Level Wellbeing Leaders when a student attends counselling and recording on Compass.Completing a documented file on each student being seen.Completing a documented list of weekly counselling sessions for each student seen.Liaise with:Principal teamTeachersReports to:Assistant Principal and Business Manager Who May Apply Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position. Conditions of Employment This vacancy is to replace an employee on parental absence and is for a period of seven years or until the employee absent on leave returns to duty at the school.
