Description:
The Director of Military and Veteran Services oversees the operation of the Military and Veterans initiatives at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. This includes processes and activities to support veterans, active-duty service members, and dependents. The Director reports directly to the Assistant to the Vice President and Director of Strategic Projects in the Division on Enrollment Management.
Responsibilities:
20% Provides overall operational, budget, and personnel supervision to the Office of Military and Veteran Services. This includes submitting and approving expenses, travel, and purchases. Also included is the approval of leave requests and maintenance of office records and inventory.
20% Evaluates the requirements and ensures compliance for receipt of federal and state military benefits for Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi by analyzing and monitoring enrollment, recruitment, the student financial account, financial aid, admissions requirements, academic requirements, and academic records, of each veteran or eligible person.
20% Serves as the primary manager for the University's implementation of the Hazlewood Exemption Act. Determine student eligibility for the Hazlewood benefits. Monitor cumulative credit hours for students per term, ensure benefits are correctly applied and accounted for. Ensures compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and TVC rules and reporting on Hazlewood.
15% Oversees the certification of veteran and military-connected federal educational benefits by reporting enrollment and graduation information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the University’s compliance with state and federal regulations.
10% Oversees and evaluates all programing related to veteran and military-connected students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
10% Serves as the liaison to the Army ROTC program on campus by assisting the ROTC department in analyzing and monitoring enrollment, recruitment, the student financial account, financial aid, admissions requirements, and academic records of each cadet.
5% Performs all other duties as assigned by the Assistant to the Vice President and Director of Strategic Projects or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Ten (10) years of related experience.
Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement.
Intermediate skills in Computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Knowledge of communication techniques and record keeping practices.
Ability to work well with diverse groups and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel to support job functions as well as the capability to work outside regular business hours and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Strong military or military family connection.
Experience with VA-ONCE and Hazlewood Act.
Knowledge of higher education or business operation practices
